I was interested in the way the technical internship system for foreigners works, which has been widely reported in Japan, so I went to Vietnam to interview a local facility that sends out foreign technical interns. The first thing that was done there was to train “Vietnamese suitable for Japanese” so that they could be hired by the Japanese, and I was frustrated by the validity of this. The instructor was well aware of it. And now that the Internet has become widespread, they are aware of the harsh working conditions in Japan. Still, they have a strong determination to go to Japan for their own present and future. My subjectivity had no room to enter into it.

私は日本国内で様々な報道がされている外国人技能実習制度の働き方について興味を抱いたので、ベトナムへ行き、外国人技能実習生を送り出す現地の施設を取材した。そこでは、まず日本人に雇用してもらうために”日本人に適したべトナム人”の育成が行わており、私はその妥当性に歯がゆさを感じていた。しかし、それらをすべて理解した上で、日本について学ぶ外国人技能実習生と教える側がいる。そして、インターネットが普及した今、彼らは日本での過酷な労働実態も把握している。それでも、彼らは自身の現在と将来のために日本に行く強い決意を持つ。私の主観などは入り込む余地はない。
