In the world of “Thomas the Tank Engine,” the sole motivation for working is to be useful, and there are almost no scenes where one’s identity or roots are considered. I thought that this way of working could be called pure labor, and that’s what inspired me to create this work. I also let the spiders I have been capturing build their webs in order to engage with the world of Thomas the Tank Engine. Not for predation or to maintain their territory, but for my own purposes. I let the spider do the work. I drew a drawing of a Thomas-like world to take care of the copyright of Thomas the Tank Engine. This three-way difference in the way we work has led me to consider how we relate to work.

「きかんしゃトーマス」の世界では、働くことの動機は「役に立ちたつ」ことが唯一無二の目的であり、各自のアイデンティティやルーツを考察する場面はほぼない。私はこの働き方こそが純粋な労働と言えるのではと思ったことが制作のきっかけです。そして、その「きかんしゃトーマス」の世界と関わるように私が捕獲してきた蜘蛛に巣をはらせた。本来の捕食やなわばりの維持のためでなく、私の目的のために巣をはらされることになる。私は蜘蛛に労働させた。私は「きかんしゃトーマス」の著作権を配慮するために、「きかんしゃトーマス」らしき世界のドローイングを描いた。この三つ巴のような働き方の違いから、働くことへの関わり方を考察した。蜘蛛は女郎蜘蛛という。
